Abstract: Generalized polygons (GP), since originally introduced by Tits (1959), have inspired researchers' longtime interest and led to a great deal of mathematical efforts. A remarkable fact is that with quite simple definition, a very rich theory of GP and a deep connection between GP and certain types of simple groups can be developed. In this talk, a brief introduction of GP is given, where you can find: the research background, an important reduction, several interesting examples, some famous problems, a series of recent works, and a glance at future.
